Challenges after upgrading to BW/4HANA and S/4HANA

You have updated your ECC system to S/4HANA.

This chapter explains the challenges and opportunities you have after upgrading to S/4HANA.

There are two options of upgrading -> first upgrade your BW system to BW4HANA and then your ECC system to S/4HANA

OR

first upgrade your ECC system to S/4HANA and then upgrade your BW system to BW/4HANA.

In this, second scenario is preferred where double work is avoided and no redesign is necessary.

As in this way you can have OLTP reports in S/4HANA itself and build only what is necessary in BW/4HANA.

The new thing is ODP with CDS technology in S/4HANA.  BW/4HANA standard extractors may be based on CDS technology and replace the old extractors.

This will require learning of the new CDS extraction technique to customize the delivered CDS views as needed with custom fields.

New business content in SAP BW/4HANA will be aligned with SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics VDM data structures.

Content objects in BW (BI_CONT) are not supported by SAP (SAP note 2289424)
