Process chain error due to # character in the file
See more of process chains in our hbite PROCESS CHAINS
While loading flat files on application server to BW targets via a process chain, the load to PSA may fail due to special characters in the file.
Thus the info package step itself will fail with the below error-

The process chain then cant progress and this may lead to delays in providing the data in the BI reports. The files are generally big and the BW system error message will not show the row number of the error record.
In such case, you might have to request business to upload the corrected file. Before doing same, you can confirm the special characters by looking at the file in AL11 transaction code and provide business with those details so that they can correct it quickly and send it back to you.
If the error is frequent, the business may ask the support team to find a permanent solution. A solution where the BW system accepts the file as it is without the Process Chain getting failed. Therefore, the support team does not have to ask business to correct the file as it may be getting generated automatically through a machine.
In this case, a small change in info package settings can do the trick.
Old settings-

New Settings (if the special character causing the error is #)-

Save and activate the info package with the new settings. The process chain will run without any error going forward and the info package will accept the # character if occurring in the file.
